I'm so glad my house lacks carpet. I have hardwood floors in the sewing room.

I have an iron cage on my board and ironing table. The iron cannot be knocked or pulled off. It's been one of my best purchases ever. And essential since my young grands are in my sewing room a lot. I bought several at Clothilde's. I haven't seen them any place since. It isn't the iron cord holder thing, just the cage. It's easy to adjust the size for the bigger irons. It's not a hassle to use, the iron sits right in it and easy to pick up.

Too bad you can't just put a cute applique over it.

I have 2 of these. I also got tired of reaching for the iron and grabbing it with my finger or hand. I like the fact that I can set it on the counter on the rest and let it cool. It's worth the money. Not really expensive, $5 ? but definitely worth it.

It doesn't matter with the iron I have with the auto shutoff whether it's upright or flat.

Oh yes, I can relate. We moved to an apartment (eons ago) and they had just put down new carpet and I was ironing in the living room and knocked the iron off and yes it left a nice imprint too. Needless to say, when we moved out I didn't ask for my deposit back. lol.

I have the metal thing on the end of my ironing board and always put it there. Not in love with the one on the Wal-mart 18 inch wide one but at least it's a place to park the iron.

My inexpensive little iron does the same thing, so I only lay it face down when I am done, to let it cool. My iron heats up within seconds, so I can begin ironing in less than a minute after turning it on. Works for me. I found the silicone pad on Amazon.
