madamekelly, I have the same iron. When you sit it flat, doesn't it continue to steam?

It does stay hot, but I turn it off everytime I walk away from it. It does not steam since I discovered I get better results from using a small sprayer bottle instead, so I quit putting water in it. When I want to use it, it heats up quickly, so keeping it hot is great, and no auto-shutoff problems as I prepare the next piece to iron.

did the same thing in a rental property. Who puts carpeting in the kitchen anyway!? But do see if a good carpet layer is able to patch--I've had that done when we pulled up carpet in room with a floor plug and reused in a smaller room, and twice when the dogs "ate" the carpet.
