Congratulations on finding "the groove." I can't wait to see your quilt - SAS is my favorite pattern.
Just FYI: Deb Tucker has a Diamond Recs ruler for those diamonds. I haven't tried it but I love everything of hers that I have tried.

The Storm at Sea block is so beautiful. I once made one for our church raffle quilt for the holiday Fair, however, I made a slight miscalculation and accepted when a friend offered to make half the blocks. Mistake, as we were sewing on different sewing machines with different 1/4" seams. I did manage to get it together and a very nice lady in church offered to do the hand quilting on it - it was beautiful when done, however, I learned to always use the same machine when piecing as it makes a difference. I can't wait to see your DD's finished quilt, as I love batiks, and blue and purple batiks should make a beautiful quilt.
