I only have one rular (so far) and it is the 6" x 24"

If you have the option of getting the "frosted" non-slip rular - GET IT! It will make cutting straight strips of fabric so much easier!

    6 X 24

    For a second ruler, I would get a 12 1/2" x 12 1/2"

    then there are the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th....

    I agree with Cathe. A 6 X 24 and then a 12 1/2 by 12 1/2. I have some other smaller ones but these are the 2 that I use most often.

same here. I have lots of different rulers now but use these two on every quilt if even only to square it up and trim after quilting!!! I also use the 6x24 to fold my larger pieces of fabric into a uniform size.

The Olfa in the same size is the one I have and I love it cause it has a lip which is great to keep your ruler steady against your board!

I have a 12 1/2" square ruler with the 6 1/2" cut out in the middle for squaring up blocks

The foot I seem to use the most is the 1/4 in foot with the guide and will probably use the darning foot once I start stippling and free machine quilting more ( have to work up the courage )
I also have a walking foot which i also use regularly..
    have fun shopping...
I use the 12 1/2 x 12 1/2 a lot. I use it to square (or size up) blocks, also to square corners of quilt tops. The 1/4 in. foot is what I use the most when piecing blocks. Then to assemble blocks, I use the walking foot.

sounds like i may have to invest in a 12.5 x 12.5 as it seems quite a few of you like that one...now i will just have to go shopping..running out the door!

I agree with others. 6 X 24 for cutting strips and 12 1/2 x 12 1/2 for squaring. As for feet, I like my 1/4 for piecing, open toe for general sewing, darning foot for free motion, and the walking foot for stabilizing the quilt and quilting grid lines.

I have to absolutly agree on the ruler. In fact the 6x24 is all I used for years. As far as a foot is concerned, I us my 1/4 in. about 99% of the time. :!: :!: :!:
