Default Steam iron & vinegar ?

I have a Rowenta steam iron & the other day I put about 1/2 tank of water in it. While it was heating up the water leaked out of the iron & all over my ironing board. I do know it is probably ready for a cleaning but I don't have any regular vinegar. Could I use Apple Cider Vinegar in it to clean it & see if this helps the leaking problem? I've used Apple Cider Vinegar to clean my coffee pot in the past & it worked wonders on it. My iron is probably about 8 years old.

I went to Mr. Google and found nothing that said you couldn't use apple cider vinegar instead of regular vinegar.

Thanks, Ginger. That's where I went to first also but thought maybe I was the first in the world to ask that question so no one had ever answered it. So I'm hoping it's o.k.

Default Just be aware

That apple cider vinegar when it evaporates, unlike white vinegar leaves a sticky residue. When you cleaned your coffee maker you probably were able to flush out the residue by running a pot ful of clean water. You may have to do this a couple of times with clean water on your iron.

Thanks for that input, Kalady! Yes, I did run clean water through the coffee pot several times after I cleaned it. I will remember that if I decide to go that way on my iron.
