I am working on a project that I need to use invisible thread on. I need advise as to whether invisible thread can be use in the bobbin. If so is there anything special that needs to be addressed such as changing anything about winding the bobbin on the machine etc.?

Wish I could help you, but I don't like using invisible thread. I hope its not something that'll be ironed. If so, I'd find some other way of doing what you need done. A lot of the invisibles melt under heat.

If at all possible, I would only use it in the top. It may be a lot easier for you using regular thread in the bobbin.
If you do choose to use it in the bobbin too, wind it VERY slowly, and only fill the bobbin no more than half full.

Invisible thread tends to stretch when being wound, and I would prefer to use it in the top only :D

....I place the spool of invisible thread upright.
....and sew slowly.

I have used invisible thread in the bobbin, but you do indeed need to go slowly. And use a bit longer stitch length.

If you are confident in messing with your bobbin's tension, you can tweak that to be sure it slides enough and only enough for the nylon thread, but if that seems uncomfortable to do, then stay away from the tension screw on the bobbin !

Just using a larger stitch and going slowly ought to do the job.

I use YLI Wonder invisible tread in both top & bobbin. If I remember correctly, I lengthen the stitch slightly when quilting. You have to be careful when winding bobbin so that it does not wind too tight - go slow & don't completely fill bobbin. I even use the invisible thread for mending or sewing on patches for a friend.

The one time I used invisible thread - I only used it on the top and not in the bobbin. It worked well but it was scary from all the horror stories!

I think either YLI or Mediera invisible are the better brands to use. The nylon will indeed melt if ironed. I don't use it and it feels like fishing line to me. Otherwise the above advice is good. Don't be afraid of this thread or any thread. If you have any thread questions, the Superior web site has vast education pages on various thread questions and how to deal with various threads. HIH

I use invisible thread in the top and bobbin for "invisible" machine applique. Here are some things that I have learned to keep in mind:

1- Needle size, I use size 60 needle when I use invisible thread in the top and bobbin for applique. For machine quilting, I use size 70 Quilting Needles.

2-When you wind the invisible thread on the bobbin, go really slow to avoid stretching and don't wind it full, half full is plenty, remember the thread is so fine.

3- I do adjust my bobbin tension, so that when I hold the thread it doesn't pull out too freely and it doesn't get stuck either. See how it feels now with the regular thread to get a feel for it.

4- I also adjust my upper tension lower.

Depending on what you are using it for, you may need to adjust stitch length too. Test it on a piece of the project materials and adjust as needed.

I stopped using invisible thread in the bobbin for quilting, I just use backing matching thread, but I do like it for when I machine applique as it does make a difference there IMO. Just my two cents here. Good luck.

Forgot to say, I use Sulky, but I heard good things about YLI.

I use invisible thread on the top when SID and thread that matches the backing on the bottom. Adjustments need to be made to the tension so practice on a test peice. I donot use invisible thread on bottom. Sew slowly and keep the thread up right either on a splindle or in a bowl on the table behind your machine, Invisible thread gives you the quilted look with out seeing the stiches.
