Thank you to all those who offered compliments.
To answer true's question...
You can do a basic chain on point with 6" finished blocks (2" finished squares in the 9 patch). When you're calculating the size, you want to start with the row that will run diagonal across the center & then add on HSTs cut from 3 7/8" square to each end (unless you're making a rectangle & then you have some calculating to do as the smaller triangle corners will be attached to different rows). From that point until the other corners, you'll add on an HST cut from 6 7/8" square on either side of the row & reduce the number of squares accordingly. I'd still sew them in rows, but would piece from the center out -- adding one row to each side as I worked my way outward. When you get to the outer corners, you'll again add the smaller corner squares. I make mine by cutting the square, drawing a line down the center & then cutting 1/4" from the line. I'm sure there's an easier way to do it, but I'd rather waste a tiny bit of fabric & get my cuts precise.
