Can you iron a quilt? I did iron a corner of a quilt once and it felt like I scorched the batting. Is there batting that can be ironed and some that can't? :?: :?: :?:

Well, cotton batting could be ironed, but polyester sure would melt if ironed at the cotton setting.

I've ironed quilts with cotton and poly battings and never had a problem.

Best bet would be to try ironing some scrap pieces first. I usually make up a little quilt sandwich from the top and bottom fabrics with the batting inbetween. That's where I practice my quilting stitches to find out if I need to lengthen the stitch, change the tension, does the top and bottom thread work well together, etc.

I would think that all cotton batting would be alright if the iron setting isn't too hot. (hot shrinks cotton) I have ironed a quilt with polyester batt (on a low setting) to get it ready for machine quilting. I find it helps get the sandwich flatter for putting the pins in. Too hot of an iron would probable fry the polyester and it will lose it's loft.

I've ironed all my quilts & never had a problem with any of the battings. I'm carefull to not have the iron too hot & I do use steam.

why do you want to iron your quilt?
usually if you get them out of the dryer as soon as they are done and give it a good shake/fluff they do not need any pressing. if it sat a long time i would either re-wash it or at least dampen it and put it in the dryer=
ironing a quilted quilt usually will put creases/puckers against the quilting lines.
