The threads on organizing fabric by folding on a ruler, so I thought I'd try a yard- I LOVE IT- LOL, so 1 1/2 hours later I had to make myself stop folding! My definition of scraps changed along the way so I started a basket for future ISpy quilts. Great motivator to use fabrics I forgot I had!

I have trouble keeping the ruler/fabric from slipping so my fabric isn't as flat as I'd like it to be. Am I doing something wrong?

It works best for fabric that is at least 1/2 yard. It's a great method that works wonderfully without extra cost!

I have a 3" X 15" ruler. I fold over the fabric on the larger ruler, put the smaller one on top, matching the edges, roll the fabric then slide both rulers out.

QUESTION: what do you do with larger cuts, like 4 yards and above? The roll is so thick you can't fold it. Larger ruler?

I folded my fabric that way, stacked it by color or theme. Then I was thinking about getting the comic book boards, so on a whim I put those folded fabrics vertical, wondering how much room they would take up that way vs. in stacks. They stood up without the boards!!! I was so thrilled. I now have most of my fabric standing vertically (much easier to take a piece out that way) and am not having to buy boards! All the pieces I did this with are 1 yard or more.

This might sound stupid, but I keep reading about "I Spy" quilts. What are they? I have no idea. But I would like to know exactly what they are.

Dunster, Wow, thanks for sharing this. Never thought of putting them on end without a board (I just stack mine by color). My shelves aren't high (about 14" on some to 18" on others) so I'd have to fold them in thirds.... hmmm have to think this out. Thanks for the new approach!

An I Spy quilt is made from any fabric that a child can play the game I Spy with. You use easily recognizable fabric prints like cars, trucks, train,bugs, alphabets, colours (boys) and butterflies, dolls, kitties, candy etc. for girls. Some people do them with 2 matching squares hidden around the quilt for a matching game also. There are some good examples on QB.

the ruler folding works even better since i put the anti slip dots on it----i made 3 I spy useing multiples of 6 1/2 [ruler size] that way you can incorparate large pieces like trains at 6 1/2 x24 1/2
