The Japanese thought the new round bobbin looked like a snake's eye, and from the innovative design, a name was born."

I found this on their website. Ja is "snake", no is "of", and me means "eye." Same meaning as eye of snake, but different word order.

Deborah
Also....JA ('a' sounds like the a in 'ha, ha'); NO ('o' is a long o as in 'no'); ME ('e' sounds like the e in 'text')

Just my 2 cents worth ;0)

I was employed by Janome Co. before retiring a few years ago. When I attended their conventions in various parts of the country all educators and dealers pronounced it Ja-NO-Me. 3 syllables

I've always just said the two-syllable, but I have a heavy Mississippi accent, so I sound different everywhere I go!

My Janome dealer, who has traveled to the factory, calls it Ja-no-me

Why do some teachers have to bad mouth any machine that is not their personal favorite? Certainly turns me off. We all have our preferences just like we all have our quirks
