I just purchased a Janome 1600P-DBX machine. It's my first "bigger" purchase, up from my smaller machine with a 5 inch arm. I've played around with it and free motioned, and everything seems to be working out well. I've used Coats and Clark thread, and that seems okay so far, too.

Does anybody have any tips on where I can buy (preferably locally, but also internet) bobbins for the machine? What about needles? I know it takes the DB needles, but where can I buy them? Does anybody have advice on types of thread that are particularly good/bad?

I'm open to all suggestions!

i have the same machine i use the same brand that came with the machine i will send the name tomorrow the thread it varies if the machine acts up it's either the thread (rare) the bobbin the bobbin sometimes has to adjusted according to the flow of the thread check the book for that you really don't want to mess with the tension it does not help to change it just makes it worse did you get a walking foot?? i have an extra if you need it.

janome machines use Class 15 bobbins. (class L will work, but 15s are what come with them.)

if you like the idea of pre-wound bobbins, i can recommend this site. they sell both polyester and 100% cotton threaded bobbins. the cost of prewound from this site is pretty close to the cost of buying empty bobbins and thread seperately. i've used dozens of them with no issues. they are "real" bobbins, so once emptied, they are reusable.

I just got a new machine and needed a different bobbin. I ordered an recieved 50 bobbins for 7.95 on ebay. They arrived in 4 days. Just put in the bobbin type in search.

What machine did you get? I'm picking up mine today (6600) and one of the questions for the dealer was what size the bobbin was. I really hope that they're 15's because I just went out and bought a bunch of them for my other machine!!

I got a brother SQ9000. I went to Joanne's to pick up some bobbins and they were 5 for 2.95. My ebay purchase was a good deal.

I get my bobbins on Ebay and my needles through Sewvacdirect.com. I have never had any problems with either.

the 6600 definitely uses class 15 bobbins. class L will also work if that's what you already have on hand, but 15s are the technically correct size to use. 15s are the same diameter as Ls, but ever-so-slightly higher. when piecing, you can't tell the difference. i haven't tried quilting with an L, so don't know if it would matter.

WHERE on ebay did you find 50 bobbins for $7.95? if it's a store that sells them regularly for that price, pretty please, do share the specific information. unless you buy 1,000 at a time, that's absolutely the best price i've ever seen for bobbins.

side note about the 6600: the little plastic part of the auto-threader is replaceable. my dealer showed me. if the little metal hook that pulls the thread through the needle ever gets bent out of shape, you can just replace that part and you'll be back in business. :-)

side note on needles: another good source for needles is jhittle.com. they sell the regular packs and in bulk.
