Any advice on how to stop my thread from breaking while I am longarming a Laura Heine collage quilt? There are times my needle will not pick up the bobbin thread. I literally have to take use my up/down button to stitch. One stitch, move the head, take another stitch. Take a few stitches then the thread breaks. Steam-a-seam 2 lite was used as the fusible webbing. I've tried lubricating my needle. Worked for awhile but now it's not.

Make sure you don't have the quilt on the frame too tightly. That can sometime cause skipped stitches & thread breakage. What size needle are you using? Poly or cotton thread?
I've also read about a Sharon Schamber hint: "Sharon dips a spool of thread into a jar of mineral oil, takes it right out, dries it with a paper towel, and it is immediately ready to use. " I found this quote here

oooh, just read a post on a different thread. She suggested sewing thru waxed paper. I'm going to remember this... you can see thru the waxed paper no problem and it should provide just enough lubricant.

I have made and longarmed several of these. Try dripping a few lines of Sewers Aid on your thread to lubricate it before you start.

I used Mettler 100% cotton 50 and also used Sewers Aid to no avail. I found a 22 Groz-Beckett needle in my stash and tried it. Worked! I've done many appliqued quilts and this is the first time I've had to use such a large needle. Good to know for future reference.

Has anyone used that magnetic thread lubricant device that Sail Rite recommends to use with Sewer's Aid?
