Default Janome 6600 knee lift

One of the main reasons I bought my Janome 6600, was the knee lift feature. BUT, when installed, I can't reach it with my leg. I have to sit 12 inches to the right of the needle in order for my leg to reach it. Anyone have a solution to this problem?

I have the same problem with my 6600 also so I just don't use it. I think it's because I am just 5'2" . Sorry I don't have the answer but I will be watching this thread to see of anyone else does.

I'd be lost without the knee lift! The manual for my 7700 shows how to adjust the angle of the knee lift to make it easier to reach--don't know if the same thing is possible for the 6600. If you can't find anything in your manual and want me to send you a scan of the page in mine, just send me a pm.

The other thing some of us have done is cut a slit in a section of a pool noodle and slip it onto the knee lift, making it fatter.

Some people have bent the metal rod to the left - very carefully.

I also find that my knee lift for my 7700 is a tad far away - especially after having lost a lot of weight. Time to get a pool noodle.

Good luck.

I recently test drove the Janome Horizon and I had to remove the knee lift. I kept bumping my elbow on it. I think I'm too short to use it. It seemed like a good thing to have.

What do you need a knee lift for?
My machine has auto lift when in needle down. It lifts just a little so you can turn your fabric. Then it lowers automatically when you start to sew.

The auto lift sounds like a very handy feature. But I think even if my machine had that, I'd still want the knee lift, to save time and motion. About the only time I use the presser foot lifter in the back is when I need the presser foot at its extra height, or when changing needles or feet.

I have the pool noodle and had to get used to sitting a little farther to the right also. To me the knee ligt is like a thimble, hard to get used to at first but now I can't sew without it!
