I am looking at purchasing the new Janome 7700, has anyone sewn on it, and how might it compare to the 9700. I am a quilter, but also want a machine for general sewing as well as a small amount of embroidery. I have sewn on a Singer Touch and Sew for about twenty years so this is a big leap.

Also I am looking for a dealer in Burlington who would sell this machine. Thank you

I haven't used it but Burlington where? I think there's probably a Burlington in just about every state.

The Janome Horizon machine is wonderful for sewing and quilting but alas it does not do embroidery except for any built in stitches it might have.

The people who have it love it. I have not purchased one but have talked to my dealer about it.

I have a Janome 6600 that I love. I mainly use it for quilting. It is a dream of a machine. It it quite a bit less expensive than the 7700.

If you are not trading in a machine and are flux with extra $$$$, then the Horizon 7700 would be a nice machine to have. I have a Janome 6600P and it is a workhorse to sew on. It isn't worth the extra to trade up. Yes the Horizon has a larger harp, but again, the 6600P does what I need.

I have the 7700 and love it. Join our yahoo group for this machine to get all the pros and cons. Just look for Janome 7700.

I feel the same way you do. When you compare the two you have a rather negligible difference in harp space ( Leah Day, a new Horizon owner even says 2" doesn't make THAT much difference) and the Horizon has a few more stitches. I don't begrudge anyone for spending the extra money for 7700 at all ,but I think it's riding the "next new thing" syndrome.
I love all my Janome machines but it's like Apple and their iPhones. They make a few relatively minor upgrades, charge a premium amount for the next newest thing , and then laugh all the way to the bank

If I were to choose between a 6500 and a 9700 then, which would you choose, I was quoted a very good price for the 7700, that was the only reason I was considering it.This will be my first new machine in twenty odd years, so I am looking for a little more than the basic. Thank you for all your great replies.

I would get the 6600. The 6500 is great but the 6600 has the accufeed (which the horizon also has). But if you can get the 7700 for a good price I'd go for that.

I don't know the first thing about the 9700.
