Default Janome Jem Gold Help Needed

I'm fairly new to sewing/quilting. I bought a Janome Jem Gold 660. My immediate concern is the reverse stitch lever. It works if you hold it down, but goes down at an angle. It looks like it should go down straight. I wasn't sure if this was how it works, or if it came to me broken. The owner's manual didn't address the issue. I tried to google it, but that got me nowhere. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I have two of the Janome Jem Gold machines. The lever goes at an angle on both of them so no need to worry. They are great machines. Both of mine are about 10 years old. Many kids have sewn on them. One thing be careful of the spool pin if your machine has the removable one. It is very easy to break if left on when moving the machine around. I learned to take it off when moving the machine after buying several replacements.
