When I was about 7 yrs. old my mom taught me to embroider. We made a few baby blankets together. I'd work on squares with puppies or kittens and she'd put them together in a baby quilt and tie them. We did 3-4 of them and then tired of it and moved onto other projects. Coming on down 45 yrs. later, we now live near each other and would enjoy having a project to do together again. So, out comes the patterns for hand embroidery again. But, now I want to incorporate the blocks into one that I can do some FMQ on (not the actual embroidered blocks, but the rest of it). What would be a good basic pattern to use that would be an emb. patch and then something else? I was thinking something simple like a 4 patch or a 9 patch. Any other ideas? I did a search of baby quilts on here but either there are none posted with embroidered sqs. or I got tired of looking through the many postings, even though all of them were beautiful. Just looking for suggestions. Thanks!

Have you checked out red work patterns? I have always thought I'd like to do one of these but haven't gotten around to it. I did a google search for red work quilt patterns and got a lot of hits..... Here's a couple

If you look on this OB posting link, there are some quilts I made using embroidered blocks made by my aunt.

A snowball quilt leaves good space for embroidery.

There is a beautiful pattern called " Over the River" I think... it's a horse and sleigh in two large panels with the rest in patch work..
from the old Christmas song .. over the river and though the wood to grandma's house we go.. I bought it... it's somewhere in the sewing room.. LOL I'll try to find it and update the name if I'm mistaken.. Have fun.. those will be cherished memories later..
