Default Non-Bernina FMQ (daring) or zipper foot...

Have any Bernina owners purchased and successfully used non-Bernina feet for their Bernina machines? I have an Artista 200 and would like a new style darning foot and also a zipper foot. I do not care for the high price that Bernina charges for their official feet. Thanks in advance.

There are generics but the high prices for their feet reflect the fact that you still see Bernina feet that are 40 and 50 years old and functioning like new. You can buy cheaper, less well made feet that 'work' but you will have a quality difference and they typically don't last nearly as long or function nearly as well. It's up to you.

I don't know of a source for feet to fit the Bernina's cone shape where the feet attach. If you surf the net you might be able to find one. My Bernina came with most of the feet I need and I wait or the Spring 25% sale if I want a special one.

I bought an adapter for my Bernina 1230. It fits on to my cone and then I can use regular shank non-Bernina feet on my Bernina machine. I don't use specialty feet much, but when I did it worked fine.

Edit: I just looked up the Artista 200 and found several different adaptors depending on what type of shank you want on your non-Bernina feet. Here is a link:
http://www.bernina.com/en-US/Product...3322353289/1@1

There is an adaptor for snap-on feet, for standard shank feet, and for short-shank feet.

It has been my experience teaching for many years and 100,s of students that generic or non brand accessories do not always perform satisfactory and just cause frustration.

Bernina quality and reliability are worthy of the price, and if something goes wrong with a Bernina foot, they stand behind it. Your choice, but generic feet are not something I'd ever consider for my Bernina or my Viking.

Thanks Prism for your help. When I purchased my Bernina Artista from a seller on eBay a few years ago I was completely overwhelmed and did not realize that she had kept the zipper foot. I make too many things with zippers now to not have a zipper foot. I mainly wanted to find out what quilters' experiences have been with generic feet.

Thanks for everyone's input.

I only use Bernina feet on my machine also - not worth the hassle to try generic feet. I have two Berninas and the feet will go on either one. For me it doesn't make sense to have the best machine and then use cheap products with it.

I, too, would recommend that you go ahead and buy the Bernina feet for two reasons. (1) You know what the quality of the foot is, and (2) you know that it will work on your machine. If you can wait for a sale, you will get the best price. Or, if you are going to one of the big quilt shows, check and see if Bernina will have a booth, because they usually sell the accessories at a slight discount. Remember, you get what you pay for.

I bought a non Bernina walking foot. it works OK but it loosens up after a time so every time I stop I have to check to see if it's still attached to the machine. When I can afford it it will be replaced with a Bernina foot.
