Default PIF to local family

Short story..Large family, oldest child freshman in high school. She was diagnosed with CA shortly after graduation from grade school. She is doing well. I did not ask what kind of CA she has as I did not feel it important for this PIF. Anyway Mom is looking for fabric and sewing tools for her and her siblings. I have lots of fabric that is not new up to date and many spools of serger thread I have put together. Also will be giving her my Phaff portable machine. What else should I be looking for in my sewing goodies. What about a book? Got any ideas? thought I might also send my scraps of batting. I'm getting tired of piecing them together or will that be too difficult for a beginner? I am not sure she knows much about sewing but do understand she is very "crafty" Thanks for any ideas you can give me.

It might help if you offered to mentor her so she gets off on the right foot with quilting, and sewing. There is so much to learn and having a mentor will eliminate a lot of trial and error and will make sewing enjoyable.

That was my question as well. I think the idea of helping her is great also.

ca stands for cancer I think lots of fun stuff for sewing and crafting would be great. My 15 yr old DD makes purses out of used jeans a FQ. she likes different colored threads, old T-shirts and beads. Maybe a book that shows how to make some basic items like purses, hats and other items.

I think sending the batting pieces is a good idea. Chances are that some of their earlier projects will be smaller quilts. It may be something they don't know how to shop for, and having some on hand will make it easy.

I do think a beginner's book would be helpful.
