My local Joanns honors competitor coupons but I could see why they didn't want to honor the 20% off entire purchase (that would be pretty cool if they did). I make sure when I use a Hobby Lobby or Michaels coupon, I buy what the other stores sells (ie. Michaels doesn't sell fabric but other crafting items so if you buy a "craft" item, Joanns will honor the coupon). Same with Hobby Lobby but they do sell fabric but you have to watch their coupon - they state what the coupon is for (fabric, craft item, etc.). I'm also fortunate enough to have a Hobby Lobby & Joanns on the same property so I can hit both stores with one stop.

And, I've never had a problem with the "end of bolt" discount. Hobby Lobby doesn't have that offer, which is kinda silly on their part. Don't know what they do with those small pieces because I've never seen a "remnant bin".

No, I don't work at Joanns.....just a lot of learning and experience over the years of dealing with them. I love my local Joanns - they know me by sight (some by name). I have had issues with other local joanns though.

I had an issue with my Joann's recently also....I had 2 coupons and one was 50% off a reg. priced item and one was 40% off. They told me I could use both, so I handed the young girl both. She fiddled with the register a while and then told me my total. OK. I thought it had taken both coupons as she kept them. Well, I got home and she had only put in one. I was pretty chapped, but it was a small amount I purchased. Had it been a large sum, I would have been back in the store. Usually I do not have a problem with the regular cashiers, but I had never seen this one before. Maybe she was new and didn't know how to do it, but she should have called someone over.

Sorry this happened to you. They usually take other store coupons at my Joann's though. But it's the "regular" cashier that does it the best and most honest way.

I have to say that so far, our Joann's in Snellville, GA is awesome. Although I have not tried the competitor coupon thing, I was alerted to the fact that they take them by one of the employees at the cutting table. For the most part, though, I have been supporting my LQS because I wanted to learn more about quilting by taking classes, and to be honest, I truly enjoy our store-so here is a shout out to Patchwork Cottage quilt store in Lawrenceville, GA!

I work in retail and taking the 40% and also the 20% would be a double discount. Employees are not allowed their employee discount on the item they use the 40% coupon on either and we feel that is fair.

this is what I was told as well. YOu cannot use a michaels coupon on fabric, but they will take Hobby Lobby. I did use a Michaels coupon though and received 40%off the Accuquilt Go. My total was $149! They also will not apply coupons to items already on sale.

They should have returned your coupons, they are your property. I take my ipad into the store and they just scan the bar code right off the ipad.

Retailers are being very careful with coupons these days. I've had to figure out Joann's policies over the past few months. First of all, our store does take competitors coupons, and as long as your purchase matches the coupon, they will take it. As far as the overall discount, the coupons usually state that you cannot combine a coupon and this discount. If an item is on sale, usually the overall discount applies. This has been my experience. Since I work retail, I find Joann's to be very generous with their coupons and shop there before I would go to Michael's or AC Moore.

I used to shop for most of my crafting needs at AC Moore, but then they changed their policy and I asked them, what is the motivation for shopping here as opposed to Joann's? I understood that I was only talking to a cashier, and I asked her to pass the message on. I have a teacher discount for most of these stores, and Joann's is, BY FAR, the best deal.

Speak directly to a manager so they can explain what coupons and discounts apply where and how, or, if you think your Joann's is not following their rules, email or call the company.

I personally really dislike JoAnn's coupon policy. I really think they are scamming. I only go there if I really can't find what I need anywhere else and I don't have time to order on line. I am no fabric snob, but if we don't start supporting our LQS's, before too long we won't have them. Even if I only buy notions or fat quarters or take a class, it helps keep them in business. You also get better service. Try getting advice from an employee at JoAnns. Most of them don't even sew.

You need to c all corporate office and discuss/complain about these store not honoring Joann's coupon policy. I am sure that joan's takes competitors coupons. Joann's will take competitors coupons as long as the other store carries that item (does not have to be exact match) eg- Joanns will not honor 40% off Micheals coupons on fabric since Micheals does not carry fabric. Also Joann's policy % off total purchase coupon is not good on items bought using other COUPONS. Also they should will take several different joann's coupons if coupon is from different source. eg- one from flyer, one from newspaper. I know this to be true since I mostly shop at the Joann's in Hudson, Ohio that is attached to the corporate headquarters.

They cannot keep your other coupons especially if you can't use them they have to give them back. I would go back and talk to the manager and tell them other joann's take the coupons why not you. That is false advertising and you should call the head office.I hate when I have a coupon then go in the store and things are on sale for least then the coupon and now you can't use it before you could, what a waste of time and paper....
