Ok, I'm tired, I should know this 'cause even though I'm new at quilting, I've been sewing for a long, long time.

I've got a pile of 4.5" hour glass blocks(think X inside of a box) that I'm joining to make four-patch blocks. So there are four diagonal (bias) seams that meet at the intersection of two straight seams.

My neatly pressed to the dark side diagonals aren't meeting together correctly on the joining straight seams. I'm ending up with bias seams pressed to the same side on the straight seams instead of nesting together.

Should I go back and rip the original bias seams so the seams can be pressed open for the joining seams?

I learned to always press to the dark side, too, but sometimes it doesn't work out best. Sometimes, you have to make one go towards the light, or even press seams open when you have too many coming together. Whatever gets the job done!
