I have a friend who used a dental floss containter to cut the tread because she couldn't take scissors.

Needles and thread are not a problem, small scissor are allowed.
Last I looked the blades had to be under 4" so I took a pair of manicure scissors without any problems.

I've taken my quilt on a plane , no problem. No one said a word as I worked on it. Have fun.
