Default Juki exceed 600

I have this machine. Use it for mostly piecing. Just had an opportunity to take a FMQ class. Guess what, it won't sew. It would make one stitch skip 3-4 stitches sew one stitch and skip again. Tried new needle, new bobbin, cleaning etc. Nothing worked. The teacher messed with it for a bit, then gave me a purple tip Janome needle to try & it worked fine. Does this mean I have to buy a new type needle. I hate to do that as I just got a great deal on 100 Organ needles.

Sounds to me as if you will need the purple tip Janome needles to FMQ on this machine. You can switch out to the organ needles for piecing.

I don't know if you need to take a Juki in for yearly servicing, but I would certainly make a sample of your problem and take it in to show the technician what your problem is.

I had never heard of these needles, so I looked them up. http://janome.com/en/blog/introducin...e-tip-needles/ They are designed to prevent skipped stitches when sewing on heavier fabrics, including the layers in a quilt sandwich. You wouldn't use them for ordinary piecing. It's pretty typical to need a different needle for piecing and quilting, or to need different needles for different threads. Often a needle with a stronger shaft (which bigger needles typically have) will prevent skipped stitches, because it doesn't flex as much. This wouldn't necessarily have to be the purple tip needle.

Well another DUH moment. I was using a size 11 needle. I'm guessing I should have probably been using a 14. Am I thinking right, can't be that simple. Surely the teacher should have suggested that as she gave me the purple tip needle.

I have the juki t100 which only goes backwards and forwards I use it on my quilting frame for free motion quilting. I initially used the needles which came with the machine since then I have used any needle I have. I didn't have the purple tips until recently. Mine does fmq without any problem.
