What foot are you using to piece with?
I am using the "compensating" foot that came with the machine.
I get a perfect 1/4" seam with it, but was wondering what everyone else is using to get a scant 1/4".

I have a Juki f600, and really didn't like the 1/4" that came with mine. It seemed to skinny cover the feed dogs well...
I bought this one not too long ago, http://www.sewingmachinesplus.com/li...06-snap-on.php and am really digging it so far. I just manually move the needle to the scant position using a ruler.
I use the same compensating foot and love it! The only issue is you have to make sure any dog-ears are trimmed off or they hang up on it. I have several machines and I love piecing on this one the best. I would take it to classes if it wasn't so darn heavy!

I love my compensating foot. I tried not using but, came to my senses and I use it on all seams.

Do you find that your blocks come out a little small using the compensating foot?
An example, if I'm making a block that should finish at 8.5", it will most likely finish at 8.25".
You can't move the needle on these machines,,

I use a combination of the compensating foot and a screw on seam guide plate positioned with Bonnie Hunters Seam finder. I found that if I just used the compensating foot I had a tendency to let the fabric creep past the edge of the foot by a hair - making the blocks to small.
