For sure!

This is how I handle it when am get asked.

I keep a notebook and write down things pertaining to my sewing, quilting and so forth… I keep this small book with me at all times so that I can refer to it when I go fabric shopping etc. When someone asked me to make or sew for them I just pull out my little note book and tell them that I am so busy right now but that I might be able to work them in sometime mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm let me see……. next year.

I sewed a pair of jeans for a little guy who has a trash run and ripped them on a dumpster. You would have thought I gave him a million bucks, he was so grateful.

Also hemmed some pants for a friend and her DH, did not mind doing it for them as they are nice people. Then her daughter came to visit, went shopping and bought 3 pairs of pants, would I hem them? They did offer to pay, so I looked on the WWW to see what people were charging, asked them about half of that, they thought it was outrageous. No more hems for them.

when I was a teenager I used to knit and crochet a lot. I made a really nice flower pattern shawl for my foster mom. A neighbor, who I used to babysit for her kids, saw it and wanted me to make one. Said "she would pay me." -- SHe did, on completion, gave me the money for the yarn. I was too young and shy to speak up for myself. As i recall, used to get $.75 to $1. an hour for babysitting too.
