Have you ever had to make a simple block but you cannot seem to get it right. Well let me tell you. I have made several mistakes on this rail fence block. I cut it wrong size the first time , 2 nd time recut pieces still wrong. 3rd time sewed in wrong order. What is a woman to do when she cannot get it right. To top it off it is a BOM I need to show to get another block for free. I am going to fudge and see if I can sneak it by.
Show a pic or tell us your story about the block that went wrong
Quilt block nighmares

I was working on my sister's quilt (the avatar quilt) and I pieced together three blocks then laid them out...well, I had put all three together wrong - couldn't be made to fit the quilt. So, I had to un-sew all the pieces and re-piece back together. Miserable...wasted an entire day at my quilt retreat doing that! But, it ended up great!

I did one of the block of the months recently and the picture I posted says it all..... there are many empty and full wine bottles standing on it, an empty wine goblet and lots of chocolate candy wrappers. It was a paper piecing one and I am pretty sure it was created by the devil.... :):) oh, and I went through about 750 miles of fabric to get the one 12 inch block done..... Am pretty sure it would have been cheaper to fly to Guam so that Terri could have helped me :):)

I had to cut the fabric for Hayes Corner three times. Each time I end up with not enough pieces of the darkest color, I don't know how, I was certain I was starting with enough fabric, but nope. The first time I cut it all set it aside certain it was ready to go, I had it 75% sewed only to discover I was missing pieces. So the next time I cut the fabric and knew after I started cutting I didn't have enough. The third time I went for a huge cut of fabric, knowing that way I'd have enough.
I put each set of cut pieces in an envelope now!

I think the devil was whispering in y ear when I picked the border for Dawns center block on the RR. It looked so simple but for every section I sewd correctly 6 others were either ripped or in the trash!I'd put 2 pieces together and by the time they came out from under the presser foot, they were usually backwards from the way they should be! I loved the border and her scrappy block but for the life of me couldn't seem to put them together right!

Well......I cut 26 7.75" squares......only to find I fotgot the seam allowance as I was cutting them in half for setting in triangles on point quilt I am making....I ordered the fabric through a friend from the U.K., and now I don't have enough....needless to say I Have NOT visited my sewing room today  Lesson learnt from this....do ONE first and make sure its the right size, THEN cut all the rest.....DUHHHHHH   :D

Good luck bebe! Hope it works out this time.
I was making a photo quilt for my sister's 50th b-day. I was down to the last couple of blocks, I was winging it - it wasn't a pattern. I kept cutting the background fabric, and it was too short. So I'd measure again, and it was too short. After about the third time, I realized I wasn't taking into account the seam allowance on the left and right of the block (duh) and I ran out of fabric. Had to go to the quilt store and they still had some, but I missed the long arm quilter by a day. Luckily, my DH was nice enough to drop it off at the quilters house after I was done and we had it in time for her party.
