There was a post on this earlier - why do the Kaffe Fasset books have templates in them? I was watching an interview that Alex Anderson was doing with Kaffe at the Houston Quilt Show and his parter Lisa/Liza explained this. I don't know that anyone else will find it interesting but I did.

They started their publications in England and the law is that if you have something in inches you also have to have it in metrics. Since a lot of the measurements translate into weird metric numbers they got around this by putting in the templates.
