I don't know that there is a set size for them. I have made many, and no two are the same size. Right now, I am working on one that is 83 x 61.

Depends on the lap. My husband is 6'3" and all legs. My mama is 5'3" with short legs. For the folks I see regularly, I make a bunch of blocks, sew together rows until it looks about right and then throw it on them in the recliner. It's not very scientific but it works for me.

For charity type quilts the organization will often have size suggestions that they like.

I make the center of mine 5 feet by 7 feet, and then just add on as many borders as I want. Usually ends up 6 feet by 8 feet.

I seem to make square ones, around 60" to 66". Shorter people use them straight, taller people use them on the diagonal.

I do make quilt tops for a charity and they require a lap quilt to be minimum of 50" wide and minimum of 60" in length. There is really NO set standard for ANY size because of the variety of the size of the blocks.

The sizes Lildink posted sounds good to me. I wrote them down for future reference.

I was just gonna post the same question. Ya beat me to it! I'm making a lap quilt right now. It's scrappy, so there's no pattern. I'm guessing it should measure about 5x7 when it's all done.
