I like to use the term "cuddle" size...meaning at least one person could cuddle under it on a couch (or sleep under it on a couch). And the order of 56x70 or so works for that.

In my opinion, a 36x36 quilt is truly a lap quilt, e.g., for a person in a wheelchair.

Thank you!
I like my feet wrapped and up under my chin.
While doing stitching or on the computer it is folded in half, covers my feet to my lap.

I've been making "lap" quilts for charity. A 36 square is ok for wheel chair. Even this varies . I tried to make them 40x60 like you said a couch throw size. I find these are a little small for practical purposes so now I make them 52 X 68. really depends what the end purpose is.
I too make them a bit bigger, so I can snuggle under them.

SUPERB , do so envy your talent, absolutely adore log cabin---------I too agree your measurements but have two 55x55 and turn them having "pointed" ends to my face/feet, this serves me well as am only 5ft 2 ins!!
