Fuzzy cutting is alright, you might waste some material, Lap quilt sounds good. I would cut it in 1/2 or depending size of quilt you want to make, cut a large rectangle, perhaps 25 x 30, then add a small solid color ,(one that is in your quilt ). Then perhaps you could do the rest of the main fabric in squares or borders around it, trying to match with some of the colors in the main fabric print.

Just finished piecing my 2nd "just can't cut it up" quilt which uses 12" squares of print fabric which would be perfect and it goes together quickly...
