I would like to make a D9P quilt. I did one in a crib size and started with 6 inch blocks. What is the largest anyone has sewn for a D9P? And have it still look good?? Thanks for any suggestions.

Ooooo, 6" sounds pretty. I hope someone has an answer, 'cause the only one that I've done was 4".

I'm working on one now that is made from 5" charm squares. After squaring up the blocks ended up at about 11 1/2 ". If I could post pics, I would show you the blocks. They are all Surf and Sand (I think they were called) batiks. Had to put it up while doing Christmas sewing but will pull it out again in a day or 2 and get started again. It will be a queen size + a little bit more and I'm keeping this one. Not giving it away like i usually do.

I made two queen sized quilts for Christmas and used 8 inch blocks. It worked well because I wanted to see the fabric prints as well.

People are probably talking apples and oranges here. By block size, do you mean (1) the size of one patch in the 9-patch, (2) the size of the 9-patch, or (3) the size of the cut-up 9-patch?

I all depends on your fabric your finished quilt size and how you will be quilting it. I have done one that the squares of the nine patch were around 8" and the finished quilt was a lap size it worked well. I will have to see if i have a pic of it on my computer or phone and post them here for you to see.

I am speaking about the original blocks for the nine patch. Each individual block. Before sewing begins.

I haven't actually made a quilt from them, but I sewed together nine 10" blocks (layer cake) and then cut them in the D9P as a test. It worked fine and looked kind of like a turning 20.

I use 5" blocks to make the D9P, worked good for me. Make yours whatever size you like, no rules here.
