I really do like the 3-D Pinwheel quilts, and can see so many possibilities.

However, I do wonder what happens to the 3-D pinwheel when you wash/dry your quilts?

Does the 3-D handle it OK?
Or does it need some special attention? and/or fluffing? ironing?
or do you end up with one bedraggled and sad looking pinwheel?

I’m thinking of using this pattern for a lady's Passage Quilt.
It would look lovely on delivery, though I fear the after effects.

Please tell me about life of the 3-D Pinwheel after it's been thru the washer and dryer!!!
Many Thanks!!

The response to this question should be interesting. I just completed a 3D Pinwheel to give to my granddaughter for Christmas and I never considered the laundering question.

I've asked this before too. Didn't get an answer, hopefully this time someone will come thru. I wonder about all 3 D effects. Ruching, pleating etc. I can see a wall hanging, but laundering??

Since it's folded over & sewn down, it should be OK.

Yes, it's held in place, and no I'm not fearing it taking off.

What about the 3-D part that kind of poufs up a bit?
That's the part I'm wondering about, as to how it looks aftre the fact?

Pretty when freshly made, but after a run thru the washer/dryer?

I've done it, and it's fine. I have a closeup here:

this pic was taken after the wash.

While I love the look of the 3D ... I just plain 'ol don't want more dust catchers around.

When I quilted one I had to design the quilting so as not to flatten the 3D. Not something I really wanted to do ... but I was the one doing the quilting for the quiltmaker.

It seemed to wash really well ... no problems.

Well, I guess if you're doing 3-D you wouldn't want it quilted down!

Thanks for the feedbback on the laundering. No doubt, different fabrics may give different results, too.
