Welcome to the Quilting Board!

I have a king size top completed. Looking for pricing on having it quilted. Can anyone give me an idea of how much it should cost, please? It's a carpenters star.thank you for your help.
Out here in Southern California, it averages a penny for a square inch. So if your quilt is 120" x 120", that is 14,400 square inches which comes out to be $144.

Thank you. I appreciate the input
Unless you are going to mail it off somewhere, pricing varies by geographic area. Local quilt shops and guilds should have brochures with pricing for quilters in the area. Pricing will also vary widely depending on the type of quilting you choose. An edge-to-edge could possibly be as inexpensive as $0.01/square inch, but if you want any custom quilting the price may rise dramatically. Make sure you discuss what you want with your quilter when you drop the quilt off. Ask to see some of their work. Find out how they want you to prepare the backing. And, finally, insist on a written quote, even if it's just an informal hand written document.

The longarm prices I've seen started at $.015 and went up to around $.04 per square inch, more for really dense quilting. You are essentially paying for the longarmer's time and skill. It takes more time, and more skill, to quilt designs that enhance your quilt, as opposed to quilting that just holds it together. For a carpenter's star, with its distinctive design, I would want quilting that enhanced the quilt without being too dense.
Some place on this forum there is a listing of members who do long arming. Maybe you could search it out and find one in your area or one you have seen pictures of their work on the forum here?
Around here it is closer to 2 cents per inch for edge to edge....
here it is around .0175 to .02 for edge to edge

You should first decide which type of quilting you want. I do both types, custom and edge to edge, and in mho most quilts do not need custom quilting. If you have a lot of negative space or blocks of a solid color then perhaps custom quilting is in order. I have seen sooooo many quilts where the first thing I thought was " isn't the quilting wonderful" and then I noticed there was an actual quilt underneath the quilting.
