When you quilt, how do you move from place to place (assuming you are not FMQ, but SID). I am rephrasing my earlier question! Do you have to cut the top and bottom thread at the end of each line before moving to the new starting place? I feel like I'm wasting a lot of thread!

I'm a novice but I cut my thread when I'm thru with a line when I stitch in the ditch.

When you have to stop when a quilting line has ended, you need to secure the stitching by backspacing a couple tiny stitches. You then cut your thread before moving to the next stitching area. It helps to cut both top & bottom threads (at the fabric) as you go as it saves looking for tails to cut later on. When starting again, secure the stitching with a backspace or two before continuing on. I cut those tails after I have gone a couple inches. It's like cleaning up as you go.

I don't stop and cut after SID each section. I do a locking stitch, stitch, locking stitch and then move to the next area. I do all of the cutting when I am finished :D:D:D
(unless there is going to be a gap bigger than 5 or 6 inches  )

If you are doing SID, you should first figure your sewing path to not have too many stops and starts.

I SID and I snip the stitches at the end of each line because I start at the top of the next line. If I didn't cut them, I would have LONG strands of excess. Thread's too expensive.

FMQ--free motion quilting??
SID--stitch in the ditch, or in my case--in the vicinity of the ditch!!

How do I pull the bobbin thread through to the top? I've tried with no success yet?
