I'm thinking of starting a disappearing nine patch today but several of the fabrics will be sideways or upside down if I use them.. Is that okay?

If you swap out the NW corner with the SE corner (opposite corners) without turning them the direction of the print won't change.

if it's a wall hanging, it is a concern because you'd want them all to be the same direction, but for a quilt which will be viewed from all direction, they'll be fine.

There is a tutorial on this site dealing with directional designs, like trees or hearts. If you are using strips it doesn't matter that they go different directions. Use the search to find the tutorial.

I have used directional for the ones cut in half. Just make sure your 'stripes' are all going in the direction of the cut and it comes out really nice.

It can be done! BUT it does take some 'thought'! Even once you cut them, you have make sure that they 'correct' ones are turned. Ask me how I know

I found the hearts online (but do not remember where)

I agree - I've never seen it made with hearts - it is gorgeous!

Thank you ghostrider. That is the site I used to make my quilt. It took longer to make the hearts, then the rest of the D9P. Of course the 'thinking' slowed me down a little.
