Hi,
I found some nice sweatshirts at Target tonight in great colors. I'd like to embroider some little designs on them - snowflakes etc. What would you recommend for a stabilizer? Can I find that type at Joann's? And should I use a hoop in addition?
I'd like to use regular DMC floss.
Thanks in advance,

I have hand embroider T shirts before. Flowers, vines, butterflies, bees and dragonflies. I used a medium stabilizer and it was tear away. Worked aout real good. Made 2 dozen and sold all in one day. Of course that was a number of years ago. The vines started on one shoulder and went down the back then back around the front. They were so cute. Good luck with them. I use DMC floss also.

What kind of embroidery do you plan to use? I use waste canvas to keep my stitches straight. As for estabilizer, you really don't need one for sweatshirts. T-shirts need it because they are thinner. Waste canvas is a grid that you pin to the shirt, stitch, wet and pull away.

I got a new embroidery book from Nancy's Notions and am going to try one of her methods. You draw your design on a piece of tissue paper, pin it to your surface and stitch over it and then remove. (Kind of like a stabilizer on the front)...
Probably mostly running stitches etc.
I found some sulky stabilizer to try but I've got to find my Joann's coupon first.
Thanks! :)
