I'm undertaking a project that is supposed to be a surprise to at least 99% of my family, for next Christmas. It's to be a quilt, adorned with baby pictures of all of our family (somewhat limited to my maternal grandparents on down to the current generation.) Some baby photos will be together, and some alone - depending on marital status and siblings at current time.

The photos will all be sepia, and what I'm looking for advice on is what to put in what I call my label square. Should it say "Our Family 2011" or would that be too... blah? Anyone have any ideas for something 'baby' related? (there are no current babies, the youngest is four.)

(also, if anyone knows of a fun 'game' to give it away - our family Christmas is all raffles, games and exchanges. We do Chinese Christmas - also referred to as White Elephant if you know what that is - to limit spending and keep everything fun!)

P.S. I know I'm starting early, but I'm excited and who knows how much time I'll have in the future, and I'd hate to procrastinate and forget!

What I have so far is this single quilt block:
(please forgive quality - it's my cell phone camera!)

I have made family crossword puzzles for reunions and such. There are many online sites that allow you to create and print your own puzzles for free. Maybe you could create a puzzle and give the quilt to the person who completes it first.

Use hints that only family members would know. They always bring about lots of stories and laughs.

What do you mean by "baby related"? If I was going to make a "baby" quilt I would use either soft pastels or go for the gusto and use bright primary colors. :XD:

to give it away I would try the "Right Left"game. It is lot of fun. You make a story about your family and you say things like Betty "Left" for school "Right" after breakfast. The object is to have everyone sit in a circle and when you say right they pass the wraped gift to the right one person when you say left you pass it to the left. You want to try to make it so there are a few "gifts" and have them spaced apart aslo the start reading slow and then read faster. it is fun as people are listening to the story and then having to do something at the same time in the right direction is a blast this can also be done for wedding showers and and baby showers.

The fabric you've chosen will be perfect with sepia toned photos. I agree that you should be sure to include information about who made the quilt.

If I have a series of these blocks next to each other, do you think it would look funny to have the flowered pattern butted next to each other? Should I add in a strip of something between each square? I was thinking maybe this brown faux suede embossed print I saw at the store... I know it would increase the quilt size (that's alright) but would it look better breaking it up, or leaving it together?

And those games sound great! Thanks!

Love your color choices! We use to have a White Elephant exchange at work after Christmas. It was really hiliarious.
