I'm from AZ and was traveling from Minneapolis to Watertown SD in November. I stopped at the Quilt Shop in Bird Island and there was a sample of a quilt that was made with charm squares. I asked if there was a pattern available and she indicated that they learned the technique at "Retreat". I didn't have enough time for her to explain everything but she said that all they did was to sew all the blocks together and then she was going to add a 3.5 inch border and then she needed to recut again a certain way to keep the blocks in order. Does anyone recognize what I'm trying to explain? I would guess that the retreat was in October or early November as she'd indicated they'd just gotten back. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Recutting the blocks? Hmmmm ..... sounds like Disappearing 9 Partch. The D9P pattern is a good one to se with charm blocks. Just make sure you put darker charms in the four corners and center ...... especially the center, so it "pops" after you cut and rearrange.

Hi, I think it could be the "Chock Full of Charms" pattern . It lets you make a top with blocks (charms) on point without using setting triangles. I love this pattern, I have made two so far.

Sew your charms in rows to the sized of quilt you want. you don't put the borders on until after you cut the center a certain way and sew it back together and the blocks are sent on point. You can't do this with out the pattern because it tells you where to cut it.

    I hope this helps. :-) :-)

That sounds like it! Thank you! It seemed real easy and was so cute and I was in a hurry to leave and the shop was busy so I didn't have time to get the whole story. I've sent an email to the shop as well so I really do appreciate your response.

Here is a demo of how to cut the quilt top to make them on point. First go to this link:
