Have you ever gone away for a weekend with your quilting buddies?

Our group is meeting for a three to four day getaway, depending upon personal schedules. We will rent condos and meet in a central recreation hall to sew, share our noon and evening meals, have fun, fun, fun.

This year we have 22 women attending the quilting retreat. Most our members of the guild, but we are opening this up to other friends, as well.

Our guild members help one another and have created a wonderful circle of friendship. I had been in other guilds, but felt like the outsider looking in.

We are having a hat contest. For those who wish to participate, you are to decorate a hat and bring it to the center lodge in a brown paper sack for impartial judging. We are also exchanging a gift with one other member...ten dollar limit with a sort of secret sister type theme.

Last year we had a fashion show of sorts --- just goofy things -- and paraded around the center lodge and over to the condos. Now, this was in broad daylight and none of us had been drinking liquor. We were high on being with one another and just relaxing.

Of course,if you want a break from sewing you may leave the center lodge and go shopping in town, take a nap, read a book, etc. We have
chosen to work on our own projects this year, rather than the pressure and expense of a group of quilters making a special design individually.

I would be interested in your experiences and suggestions.

Thank you for your interest.

Piecefully yours,
Kay Susan

So far, I’ve been to 2 retreats. The first one was in Virginia (I live in NYC). During the day there were multiple workshops. One of the nights we had a pajama party with games. That was a riot. There was a silent auction of various items and an ugly fabric auction. The MC was great. She had us laughing so hard my ribs hurt. The proceeds from both went to a charity we voted on. Also we went on a cruise luncheon.

The second one was in Connecticut. Kind of similar to the above, except on the last day, we had a Jazz buffet breakfast. What a nice way to end the weekend.

Both these experiences were amazing. The sisterhood was priceless.

This Friday, I’m going on a quilting cruise (Ports of call are Bermuda, St. Maarteen, St. Thomas and Puerto Rico). On the days we are at sea, many workshops are lined up in addition to the standard cruise stuff (rock climing wall, ice skating, dancing yoga, etc.).

The organizer told us not to bring sewing machines because they are supplying new machines for us to use on the ship. The bonus is we get to take them home! More details to follow.

You could have come!!! My roommate paid in full but cannot go nor can she get her money back. Can you believe I asked over 30 people if they wanted to go (They could pay her later), I posted something here but no one responded.

So I have a cabin all to myself.

I wonder (and I know this is a crazy idea), is anyone out there a travel agent? How cool would it be if we had a retreat?

That would be amazing!

Tomorrow is the big day!!!! I can barely wait. I guess that I will just have to get ready this evening and count the hours.

We went to Marquette, MI (on the shore of Lake Superior) this morning on business and I stopped at two quilt shops. I have some moda fabric to make a lovely quilt for my sister-in-law who is having a rough time with her health. This will be the first thing I will work on this weekend and plan to give it to the longarm quilter before I leave the facility. I also picked up some neat patterns, two books, and colorful fabric to make a purse. Having three days off plus the weekend is really spoiling me!!

I am glad other people have experienced the "sisterhood" of retreaters having a blast.

More of a scoop after the fact. :D

Piecefully yours,
Kay Susan
