I know I saw on the QB a link/resource for a calculator, that you plug in the width and length of your quilt top as well as the width and length of your backing fabric, and it gives you the measurements for cutting, on the diagonal and sliding down (the John Flynn method) if I remember correctly.
I have found several other websites but not the exact one I’m looking for.
    Thank you for any help.

Is this what you are looking for? About 1/2 way down.

I'm pretty sure that that is the basic method, but it was a website that had a calculator that you filled in with your measurements.

I was experimenting with it myself and I guess I must be slow...I don't see that much difference in the yardage savings. Is it really worth bothering with? I guess sometimes I just feel like it requires too much effort. You are still using the same square inches of fabric to assemble a back, but taking more time to figure it all out. What am I missing?

As to the benefits, I don't really know if there are any. I was hoping that the 1 1/2 yards of 104" backing fabric I just bought would fit the back of a 66" X 85" quilt top, and of course there is a direction to the print. Oh the joys of quilting!
