IT is a very interesting block with angels and fans being two main ideas.

This would make a great swimming fish design turned sideways and with the right colors.

Reminds me of a medal or blue ribbon for an award. This is a very fun block and worth repeating.

Thanks for sharing!

Art Deco-ish/30's butterfly is about the closest I found (though those looked daintier than these - so maybe it's a moth? Ha!). I asked my sister to check with her friend at the International Quilt Study Center & Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. If I hear anything I'll add a comment. Unfortunately, my sister has little interest in quilting so I hope she remembers to pass on my question.

It is a very nice block - like hairquilt above, I too prefer it to the Dresden Fan.

For fun - things I know it's not, but with the right fabrics (or enough wine) might work:
Men's suit & tie
Island volcano with lava flowing to the sea
Moth or beetle

There is a black and white block like this on Pinterest called Art Deco Fan Lamp, but I'm not a member of Pinterest so I can't see the origin (it blocks you when you scroll down if you're not a member).

Look at Cleopatra Fan, I think it is close, seems to be more pieces.
