Default Looking for a new/used machine

I am looking for a sewing machine that doesn't have all the bells and whistles. Something I can take to classes, so not too heavy. I need a straight stitch, maybe zigzag. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you have a Walmart near you...check out the reasonably priced machines there.....

Sounds like you need a Singer 221 (featherweight) and a zig zag attachment. I have 5 now. One at the summer place, one at the winter place, 2 for my great granddaughters (when they get old enough) and 1 yet to be determined.

Great time to be looking for a used machine. The dealership near me is just putting out the newest, latest, greatest machines. They are getting several smaller machines in trade. You might check a dealership for a used machine. Usually they have been serviced and carry some sort of warranty.

I got a Brother for my DGD last year at Walmart - $55.00. Don't know if they still have them at the store or not - but you might check on line. It's a simple machine that does have some decorative stitches - but it's a Brother, so i expect it to last.

My brother SQ-9050 from walmart is awesome for travel and classes, lightweight. Stitch quality is really nice, good straight stitch. I have done a lot with it for the 3 years I have had it. Only paid 180 for it and it has been a wonderful machine

Although I have several lovely vintage machines including a featherweight sometimes when you are looking there are none available. I have three Walmart type Brother mechanical machines and they are all great. Good stitch. Not fussy about thread and sew through anything.

Hancocks fabrics puts their Janome 128 on sale for less then $100.00 regularly. I have one , have dropped it - no problem
good little machine for price, very light weight. I think lighter then my FW.
