Looking for a paper piece pattern
I just finished a paper piece class. The second lesson I thought "why do people like this is is so hard and slow!! But.............. I love the results!!! I think it can be very relaxing as you have to think of nothing else when you do it or at least I do!! Maybe it will get easier. I LOVE butterfly's and would love to make a butterfly paper pieced quilt. Anyone know where I might get a pattern???

GrandmK ... My first experiences with PPing were horrid and I absolutely hated, detested, loathed it ... and more! Then about a year and a half ago, I had something I wanted to make that was PP. I went at it, using the tutorial on QuiltersCache.com to get me started. Then went right at the project. I wasn't in love with it but just as you have discovered, I liked the results! That spurned me on, as when I got going on my FWS, I had blocks I wanted to do via PPing. As I went along, I kept reading more on the web about it, and followed threads here on the QB. The more I did, the more comfortable with the technique I got ... and the better the results. Now, I have no hesitations and sometimes, have a hard time going back to traditional piecing!
So stick with it ... and you'll soon get your own rhythm and routine and will love it all the more!

Any one of the Carol Doak books have great patterns. I can do paper piecing, but can't say I really enjoy it. It does give perfect points on complicated blocks and there are patterns that would be the only way to piece them.

Thank you all so much for the links and also for the encouragement. I found 2 that look like I can do them. One is very simple and my husband is trying to convince me to do the other one but it has more pieces. I found a lot more but oh my I think it is overwhelming. Maybe if I learn to "love" it when do one I will be encouraged to start another one!!
Now................ Of to sew. I have found that it will make you forget any troubles in your life as you can only concentrate on the project!!! If your mind wanders you need to get close with the seam ripper!!!

I took a paper piecing class and was not liking it and said I had a headache just to get out of there. I went home instead of staying for the rest of the class. That was about three years ago. Recently my mentor here on the board sent me Carol Doak's DVD on paper piecing and I made two blocks. I love it now. Now I wish I would not have faked a headache and stayed and learned how to paper piece. But I am learning now. It is fun now. I really enjoy how clean the lines are. My blocks are perfect!! I bought two of Carol's books so I can make some more blocks. I am taking the Craftsy class on paper piecing also. I want to do New York Beauties very much so.

I am like YOU paper piecing takes ALL my attention so I can't do it if anyone ..like love ones are in crisis or I'm NOT with it! I made ONE cupcake and framed it. I don't think I'll be doing it again! There is lots of free patterns out there. Hope you find a great one!

My first experiences with pp'ing were not favorable. I don't talk like a sailor or trucker but man, I wanted to the day I tried it years ago... and then something happened. I don't know what but it all clicked and now I love love love it. I find it easier to do than regular piecing because I don't have to really think about it. There are lines to sew on (or next to in my case. I'm now not sewing through the paper when I pp so it's easier to remove the paper) I'm totally hooked on it. I don't think it takes much more time to do than regular piecing when you think about the time involved in precutting fabric for regular piecing.
I say if you don't like it, set it aside for a later date... maybe a year or more later... and then try another pp'd project. You might like it later on like I did. I'm so happy I gave it another chance (3 years later)
