I think it might be fun to think back and share some stories of your "Very First Quilt Project" and how it turned out. Do you still have it, and how long ago was it?
I can say this because I am working on my first quilt and can see a few "oops" spots, but keep telling myself not to expect perfection the first time. I will always remember making this quilt, being self-taught and will cherish it always, even though I know where the small pucker is, and where I ran out of thread, etc. etc. I Love It andam addicted to quilting :wink:

Don't expect perfect the next time or the last time either! Even though never perfect it is still fun.

Hasn't been that long ago-after my mom died, I brought home her stash and all of her quilting books and decided to give it a try. She even had a rotary cutter in its original package. I bought a mat, read a little and used only fabric that was in her things. I didn't quite have the cutting thing down, and I had a lot of mis-cuts and no way to find the same fabrics-so I just went with it. . .it turned out okay-but there were a lot of real short seams and it's on an unused bed upstairs-I wouldn't want to risk washing it!!!

My first quilt was about 20 yrs ago and done completely by hand. Yes we use it to snuggle in and I have washed it once or twice. It took me about 5 years to complete, had 2 small children at the time. It's all made out of scraps. Still no perfection today. Recently I was machine quilting and I told my friend ~ see those puckers on the back, that's where I tucked in the extra love. I was told you're supposed to intentionally make a "mistake" so as not to compete with God's perfection. Leaves me off the hook

My first quilt was 40+ years ago. My cousin was going to have a baby and I decided to make them a quilt. I sent the finished quilt to them--it was squares with sashing--pretty simple. A couple of years later she sent me all the squares and sashing all in pieces. I don't know what happened, maybe it just fell apart. She didn't send any explaination. I didn't make any more quilts for many years after that.

Oh my - that would have sent me into a frenzy. I read somehwere where a gal had sewn this huge quilt using the Nylon serger thread. When the top got ironed, all of the stitches melted and she had to start over.

My first one was a sampler and is still not finished as a quilt. My second one was in lavender, green, and white - a stylized crocus block for my brother's wedding. The same year (5 months later) my sister got married and she was a black and white girl. Made her a log cabin.

Boy did I struggle with those color choices.

My first quilt was over 25 years ago. It was a log cabin and I cut the pieces with scissors! I sewed the blocks together in rows and then just sewed the rows together (no matching seams). I did hand quilt it, almost a SID thing, and used the backing fabric pulled around to the front for binding. I gave it to my son's favorite teacher for her first child. She loved it. Looking back now it probably looked horrible but it was greatly appreciated. Wish I had a picture of it. I try and photograph all my quilts now so I will have some kind of record of my "improvement". LOL

My first quilt was a sampler, completed hand stitched and quilting. I took a beginner's class and learned a ton.
My Ohio Star block has the triangle ends cut off big time but some of it came out pretty good.
It was a great beginning for me though, and that's what's important! :D:D
It was around 1987 and I've been quilting ever since!
