OH MY GOSH I am soooo excited and so proud of myself it isnt even funny.
I am making a pay it forward to one of the board members here and so I am unable to post a picture of it or say much about it and so I am so sorry. I attempted to hand quilt a part of it or I think thats what it is called. Going around a design with a needle and quilting thread.
Well that wasn't working for me as I am visually handicapped and it wasnt very good so I ripped that out and luckily it was only about 2 inches so it wasn't too bad. So then, I got this great big idea in my head, I am going to see if I can do a fancy stitch around the areas that I was originally going to do by hand. AND IT WORKED. And it looks so cool. And I knowwwwwwww she will just love it. I can't wait to finish it and send it to her.... but anyways, I think that its called Machine quilting.

Fancy stitching is a great idea as many people don't realize how it adds demention (sp) and depth to their quits. I am so happy for you and now you know how wonderful it is to let your creative juices flow. It is so freeing to realize you can do whatever you desire and come up with something that is so beautiful.

I think your solution is very creative quilting.
If you consider that quilting is simply anchoring three layers (or two layers) of fabric together in order to save the life of the quilt, your solution of using fancy stitches around parts of your quilt is quite appropriate.
I have been trying to get our grandson interested in quilting. My argument is: quilting is math and men love math (his mother thinks I am teaching him to be sexist - - LOL)
Anyway, I was trying to tell him that men make excellent quilters, and was trying to convince him to start doing all my quilting so all I have to do is piecing.
At one point, while I was working on a quilt, he comes up to me and says: Remind me again of why you are putting all that thread on that quilt.
When I explained that it kept the layers together so that when the quilt is washed the batting won't end up down at one end, he said: "Oh! You mean there is a practical reason for what you are doing. I guess you are right! I CAN do this!"
The fact that people sew fancy shapes and intricate patterns is just an added creative piece to the equation - - but for those of us more limited in ability - - always remember the practical reason for what we do.
and, then celebrate your ability to do more than just the practical - - sort of like being a quilting Martha Stewart! lol <wave>

I can't post a picture of it. It is for a member of the Quilting Board and is a surprise and I don't want to spoil the surprise. I had a hard time sleeping last night because I wanted to work on it, but I couldn't as my husband was sleeping in his recliner and he would have been mad if I were to have started sewing and woke him up.
