I have 2 layer cakes for Moda's Maison de Garance. I am wondering if I can use the original Turning Twenty pattern with layer cakes instead of fat quarters or if I need to purchase 20 fat quarters.

I need to order the Turning Twenty pattern and that's why I don't know if I can use layer cakes instead or if I'll need more fabby.

I think you will need FQ's.

You could use layer cakes but may need more fab to make it the size in the pattern. I love Turning 20 patterns.

The turning twenty uses 20 entire FQs. Each is cut into 4 different sized pieces, then the pieces are mixed up and sewn back together. They can then be sewn as blocks or cut again before sewing. It is a fun and easy quilt. And so beautiful too!

My friend just did a scrappy Turning Twenty. It turned out great. She just sewed her pieces together to get to fat Quarter size and then it was full steam ahead with the TT Pattern. SOOOOO are you game for adventure? You might like it. Good luck. Wini - House of BCC in Houston

Some pieces called for in the pattern are larger than the 10 x 10 layer cake cut. But as winipb2 says, you could make it work if you are willing to sew pieces together to get the sizes needed. Good luck and have fun.

I would use a pattern made for layer cakes. There's lots of books or you can find them online. One place is the moda bake shop. http://www.modabakeshop.com
