Default Hand quilting prices

Was just reading a thread about the going prices in your area of having a quilt quilted by a longarmer. I'm curious what the going price is for getting one hand quilted in your area?

not sure, but I usually charge about $.75 to $1 per yard of quilting (not thread).

Do my own, so not a clue! I'm not sure that anyone in my area even does this. Will have to check at the LQS just for kicks.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. If you're not charging by the thread then how are you figuring a yard, 3 sq ft? That seams really cheap.

I do not measure the thread I use, I measure the lines of quilting in inches. There is always some waste at the beginning and end of the thread, that's why I don't measure the thread.

I don't do the whole quilt, I measure how much is in one block, multiply by number of blocks. For borders and sashing I measure how much quilting is in one foot and multiply by how many feet.

I charge by the square inch of the quilt top. For basic quilting I charge $.07 and for closer or custom I charge $.10. I charge extra if I have to also bind the quilt. If I provide the backing, batting or binding I charge that at my cost. I am really fast but not as fast as a longarm quilter. My hand quilting is as sturdy as that done by machine. The only damage done to the quilts I use in my home is from the cat catching his claws. I wash my quilts in the washing machine and use the dryer.

I know a girl that quilts for the stores in Lancaster, Pa. and she charges .50 a yard of thread but she has to quilt 12 stitches to the inch and they actually measure it. She is terrific.

It is usually 2 cents an inch here. I found a place in Kansas called Happy Crafters that charges by the design. According to their website I can get a baby quilt done for $15.00. I am getting ready to send my first quilt to them. I will post the results when I get it back.
