I just quilted my first wall hanging with my darning foot with stippling...it turned out pretty good, but would not have done for a bed quilt as the back stitches arent "catching",and are loose in places..
Can someone give me suggestions,,,do I tighten the tension or loosen or what??? I kind of tried both but it still is a bit loopy on the back. Also do those gloves really help..and what are the SLIDER things and do they help??? Thanks!!!

loopys on the back can be caused by your top tension being too loose. Also, if you moved too fast, the threads could be loose. Speed up your machine, if possible, and slow down your movements. See if that helps.

I think the gloves help a lot, they keep your hands & arms from getting tired so easily.

I couldn't do any quilting if it weren't for the gloves - they really work well to ease the strain on the hands.

I love my gloves. Wouldn't quilt without them. Also it's nice to know I'm not the only one to make the mistake of not putting the foot down. :oops: :oops:

Was your sewing machine needle new? Sometimes it helps to put a new needle into the machine.
When my stitches aren't catching, I check or change my needle, look for dust bunnies around my bobbin area, check to see if everything is threaded right on top, check the threading of the bobbin and if I'm still having problems, then I'll look at the tension.
