I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good quality, if not overly expensive, sewing machine thread.

I have a C6000i Brothers Sewing machine, and the reviews on the machine said to use good quality thread.

I've not used a sewing machine in almost ten years... (I was in middle school at the time).

Please and thank you!

Try www.connectingthreads.com Great thread at a reasonable price.

I like Connecting Threads. I have not found any problem with their thread and I have used every brand out there. The only thread I've had trouble with is King Tut. It just won't get along with my machine.

For piecing I use Mettler (100% cotton, silk finish) right now but am trying out Masterpiece by Superior Threads as soon as it comes in the mail. For my bobbin I use Bottom Line, by ST's as well. For quilting I've used the Mettler thread I used for piecing but then I started using King Tut and love it's thicker weight. The quilting stands out more and I love all the varigated color choices King Tut has. My machine didn't have any trouble with it.

Although I used to use Mettler, I'm now using Aurifil. It's a bit finer. For whatever reason my Bernina does not like Masterpiece :( Haven't tried it yet in the Janome, hopefully it'll be better there as I have the sampler pack from Superior Threads that I'd like to use!

I also have a Brother C6000i, and I use Connecting Threads Essential Threads. I have also used the Coats & Clarks machine quilting thread that I can buy at local stores, but the C&C turns out to be a lot more expensive than the Essential Threads and doesn't seem to hold up nearly as well.

My Bernina chokes on Mettler so I have switched to Aurifil exclusively. I love it for everything! A little bit pricey, but the spools last forever.

Whatever you do, don't use that 3 for $1.00 stuff...try Guttermann, it is reasonable, and Joann's carries it. Buy it when it's 50% off and you are getting a steal.

I have that machine too, and it gets along fine with Coats & Clark. Second the suggestion to not use really cheap thread, though. I ran into major tension problems when I made that mistake. See my DH's Facebook album at http://tinyurl.com/ThreadQuality for further info, including pictures of several different threads as seen under a microscope.
