    i send quilts through the mail all the time...i use the mail...it is alot less expensive than ups.
    i use priority flat rate box, and insurance...my post-master let me know insurance AND delivery confirmation is not necessary...you can track with the insurance slip.
    i package the quilt in a plastic bag, with an index card with my address and the address where it is going...sealed into bag...sealed into box. i've never had a problem with any flat rate box with insurance arriving where it should exactly when it should...when you drop by the p.o. to mail it they will (you may have to ask..i don't) tell you exactly what day it will be delivered.
