I don't know for sure, but you can probably get a good idea from sitting in a chair yourself. Sit in a chair and measure across your lap from arm to arm, from your waist down to your feet. That should give you a good starting point. Hope this helps.

You want to make sure it won't get caught up in the wheels, so it should cover her lap but not necessarily hang down much more.

It depends on if it is a wheelchair she moves on her own, or is pushed by someone else. One has the big wheels and one has smaller ones.

You might want to take a yard or two of fabric and put it over her while she's sitting in the chair so you can see where the fabric falls, and then you'll know what measurements would be right - for HER. Her weight, her size, her height.

I hope she has a smooth rehab period. That's a tough situation. My sympathies.

I would not make it too big or it will get pulled into the wheels. Maybe have loops with velco at top side portion that wrap around the frame to keep it from sliding down. Do a web search as there are many wheelchair user sites that may give you the info you need.
Also found on this site a similar question, do a search here.

i am sure someone here is in a wheel chair and can give you dimensions.

although wheelchairs and the people using them, range in size.

the one i made, i rounded the bottom corners, and i added an "envelope" type holder/purse at the top, to put her things in..it was apart of the quilt.

40 x 48 seemd to work good for my friend.

I have made them 36 x 44. I was worried about it getting caught in the wheels and was donating them so I didn't have the opportunity to check the size prior.

This pattern works well too. It's especially good for cold weather as it covers the back of the legs as well as the front.
